Founded in May 2003, Yizheng Automobile Industrial Park enjoys a planned area of 30 square kilometers, the goal of which is to develop the park into a new city area, modern and ecological, characteristic of manufacturing automobiles as its core together with such comprehension functions as production, research and development, logistics, trade, residence and recreation.
YAIP can be divided into 5 districts including the automobile manufacturing area, the auto spare parts and components. manufacturing area,comprehensive service area, the living residential area and the leisure activity area.
There are two whole car manufacturing plants here ----SAIC Yizheng Automotive Co., Ltd and Yizheng Light-Vehicle Factory of Shanghai Huizhong Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. The SAIC has regarded Yizheng as its third whole car manufacturing base and independent intellectual property right production base after Shanghai Volkswagen and Shanghai GM.
The Shanghai Automobile Co., Ltd. and the SAIC Motor Corp. Ltd. plan to jointly establish the SAIC Luwei Motor Co., Ltd. located at the SAIC Yizheng plant in Yizheng of Jiangsu Province and Shanghai Automobile will invest cash, land, factories and equipment at the current SAIC-Yizheng production facility for a 40 percent equity of SAIC Luwei, which will produce independently developed vehicles using technology purchased from Rover and Saangyong and become a key production base for SAIC's independent brands. The first independent model will be introduced before 2007.
